CAR MAINTENANCE GUIDE

CAR MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR A SAFE & RELIABLE VEHICLE.

It’s hard to imagine our lives without our cars, this is why maintaining them at peak condition is necessary. Every car owner should execute a car maintenance check-up.

Car maintenance can save money, and more importantly, your life. If your car operates well, you can guarantee you and your passengers are protected whenever you transit in it. Car maintenance may seem inconvenient at times, but with our simple guide, you’ll know exactly what to do and make it quickly.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED CAR MAINTENANCE?

The more often you check your car the better. Don’t wait for your warning lights to turn on or problems to show up. Because you use your vehicle on a regular basis, it’s vital to constantly ensure your engine and other elements are up-to-date.

Some people opt for monthly car maintenance but there are some simple check-ups you can do yourself to your car which are better done weekly. It’s better to do your car maintenance check-up in your lot than stranded on the side of the road.

CAR MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

Many key elements contribute to your car’s well-functioning. We share with you the main elements that you want to keep on your car maintenance checklist to prevent any accidents and damage to your vehicle.

OILS & FLUIDS

When it comes to oil & fluids, you’ll want to check your reservoir and their condition. Some vehicles don’t have certain oils but in general, these are some of the important fluids in your car you need to check:

  • Oil
  • Coolant fluid
  • Transmission fluid
  • Brake fluid
  • Steering wheel fluid

To check your engine oils & fluids, wait a few minutes after you’ve stopped the engine for the oil to drain back into the pan and get an accurate reading. Pull the dipsticks out and wipe them clean before you do the reading. Insert them and pull it out again. If the oil level comes up above the minimum mark, your oil level is good. It’s not good to have too much or too little fluid, because of this, you should keep the oil level in the range between the minimum and the maximum.

Apart from measuring oil & fluid levels, keep an eye on the condition of the fluid itself. Make sure the fluid isn’t dirty or has any contaminant in it. If the fluid is dirty you’ll have to replace it.

At last, check out for any indicators of oil or fluid leaks such as strong smells or even smoke.

TIRES

The three main aspects you want to check on your tires are pressure, tread depth, and wear.

To measure your tire pressure you’ll have to get a pressure gauge. Undo your pressure valve and insert the pressure gauge. You’ll find the tire pressure information inside the door jamb or in your manual to compare your reading.

You can measure the tread depth by running your finger across from one tread block to another, feeling the tread wear indicators between them. If you run your finger smoothly across, it indicates you need to replace your tires. If the tread wear indicators fall down and then back up, your tires are still in good condition.

Checking wear on your tires is the third aspect to inspect as uneven wear indicates uneven pressure consequently, depending on the wear pattern. For example, if one side of your tire is more worn than the other, you should get your alignment readjusted.

WEBBING BELT MECHANISM

The plastic trouts on your vehicle’s serpentine belt perform a critical function. Cracking, abrasion, tearing, or any other signs of damage will alert you if it requires replacement. The sooner you do it, the better.

LIGHTS

A damaged light could cause severe accidents but you can avoid these situations by making sure your lights are working properly. To do so, simply turn your lights on in your garage.

WINDSCREEN & WIPERS

A quick check of your windshield wipers and washers is enough to determine if they are in good condition or if you need to fix and replace them. Check the wiper blades and washers for any signs of malfunctioning. If the rubber has dried out, get new ones right away. When checking the washers, make sure you have enough washer fluid as well and add more if needed.

The glass surfaces in your car need to be inspected too. Any defects in the glass surfaces of your car, such as holes or cracks, are serious issues that are better to address as soon as you can.

BRAKES

Brakes are one of the most crucial aspects to include on your car maintenance checklist but due to their extreme importance, we recommend you have a professional check your brakes whenever you can.

AIR FILTERS

Air filters on your car’s engine are in charge of making proper combustion happen as well as provide free-flowing air for your HVAC system. Check your air filters for clogging and accumulated debris and replace them when needed. Cabin air filters may require a professional for replacement.
